Clare man remanded in assault case

A Co Clare man has been remanded for sentence at the Central Criminal Court for a serious sexual assault on a Limerick student in a caravan park.

Brian Mulvihill (aged 29), of Lislanahan, Kilkee pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a then 20-year-old woman in Co Clare on August 6, 2004.

His guilty plea to the aggravated sexual assault charge came just before a jury was scheduled to be sworn in for his trial for rape and sexual assault.

Mr Justice Paul Carney directed that Mulvihill be registered as a sex offender and that a victim impact statement should be prepared for the sentence hearing when evidence of the crime will be given.
