Stabbed man fighting for life

A 20-year-old man was fighting for his life in hospital today after being stabbed at a house in Co Cavan.

Gardaí discovered the man lying on the ground with serious injuries after they were called to a house at Aughnaskerry, Cavan, at around 2am.

Officers, who were called to the scene following reports of an altercation, took the man to Cavan General Hospital by ambulance. His condition has been described as life-threatening.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Cavan Garda Station where he is being held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí preserved the scene for technical examination.
