Four wards at University College Hospital in Galway have been closed following a serious outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

Four wards at University College Hospital in Galway have been closed following a serious outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

One ward was closed to further admissions yesterday while this afternoon it was announced that a further three are being closed.

The hospital's Infection Control Team is monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis.

Members of the public are asked to only visit the hospital if it is essential.
