The study examined road deaths and serious injuries on key stretches of the new M1 from Dublin to Dundalk and compared them to those that occurred in previous years on the old N1.

The number of deaths and serious injuries on the old road was 10 times higher than the that on the motorway, despite the fact that three times as many vehicles travel on the new road every day.
