Two arrested following Moyross shooting

Two men are in garda custody in Limerick tonight following a broad day light shooting in the Moyross estate shortly after lunchtime today.

A number of shots were fired in the Cliona Park area of the troubled estate at 1.40pm yesterday.

A number of people were in the vicinity at the time but nobody was injured.

Two youths an 18-year-old and 21-year-old were arrested during follow-up investigations in the Moyross area.

They were taken to Mayorstone garda station were they are being held for questioning.

No weapon has been recovered yet and it is feared the attack is connected to ongoing feuding between rival factions in the area.

Meanwhile, a prisoner who was violently assaulted by inmates at Limerick prison is still recovering at the Mid Western Regional Hospital.

The inmate received 40 stitches after he was attacked on Wednesday by members of a criminal gang currently serving time at the Limerick jail.

It is understood the attack took place near the prisoner's cell in the D wing of the jail.

His injuries are serious but not life threatening.

A full investigation is underway by gardaí and prison authorities.
