Young Scientist Exhibition gets underway in Dublin
Hundreds of schoolchildren are gathering at the RDS in Dublin today for the opening of this year's Young Scientist Exhibition.
Five hundred projects are vying for the top prize of €5,000.
This year's entries include an examination of the juicyness of apples, a study into "texting tendonitis" and research into the technicalities of sudoku.
Other students have also examined what affects the bounce of a ball, how to build the perfect paper airplane and whether goldfish have a memory span of more than three seconds.
