Experts seek special health services for adults with ADHD

Mental health experts are calling on the Health Service Executive to introduce special services to diagnose and treat adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The call follows new British findings that up to one-quarter of children who suffer from ADHD still have symptoms in adulthood.

The research has suggested that many adults suffering from the condition are being wrongly diagnosed with depression.

Professor Patricia Casey, the director of acute mental services at Dublin's Mater Hospital, says these patients require special expertise that is currently not available in Ireland.
