The SDLP is calling on the Irish Government to invest in a £130m (€193m) police training college planned for Cookstown, Co Tyrone.

Party spokesman Alex Atwood wants Minister for Finance Brian Cowen to make up a £40m (€59m) shortfall in funding for the facility.

He says the move makes sense because gardaí could receive training at the college along with members of the PSNI under the recommendations of the Patten Report.
