Teenager charged with arson attack on young Moyross children
A third teenager has been charged in connection with an arson attack in which a young Limerick brother and sister were badly burned.
The 16-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - appeared before Limerick District Court shortly before lunchtime today where he was charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to both Gavin and Millie Murray in Pinevew Gardens Moyross on September 10 last.
Six-year-old Millie and four year old Gavin are still receiving treatment at Crumlin's Children's Hospital in Dublin for the serious burns they suffered when the car they were sitting in was petrol-bombed.
The 16-year-old charged today is the third teenager to be charged in connection with the incident.
Two 17-year-old youths are currently before the courts on the same charges.
Today the court heard evidence from garda Andrew O'Riordan that the 16-year-old is alleged to have "kept guard" for his two co-accused while they filled two bottles with petrol.
The court heard that one of the bottles which was thrown over a wall hit the car occupied by the two young Murray children.
Judge Aeneas McCarthy described the charges before the court as "very serious" and refused jurisdiction in the case.
He noted that there was no objection to bail and remanded the 16-year-old on bail to appear before the same court on January 2 next.
The teenager was ordered to sign on daily at his local garda station and to observe a curfew between 10pm and 7am.
He was also told to have no contact with the injured parties in the case nor with his two co-accused.
