The annual commemoration is organised by the crew of the Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat in memory of 15 volunteers who died over a hundred years ago.

On Christmas Eve,1895 an entire lifeboat crew died off Blackrock in County Dublin when their boat capsized as they were trying to rescue the passengers and crew of the SS Palme.
