A search was resuming of Strangford Lough today after reports of a body in the water.

The alarm was raised last night when a member of the public rang police saying they had spotted a body in the water.

An initial search by the Coastguard, the PSNI and a helicopter and a lifeboat from Portaferry on the Co Down coast failed to discover anything.

The search operation was centred around Kilcleif Castle near the village of Strangford, close to the mouth of the lough.

There were unconfirmed reports that a lifeboat volunteer found a torch on rocks close to the castle.
