Man quizzed over guns seizure
A 38-year-old man was being questioned today after gardaí seized a small arsenal of guns in west Dublin.
Officers from Ballyfermot garda station raided a home on Oranmore Road last night and recovered two sawn off shotguns, pellet cartridges, components of an automatic pistol and an air pistol.
The man is being quizzed by detectives at Ballyfermot Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939.
The raid was carried out as part of Operation Anvil.
The seizure comes just weeks after a nationwide gun amnesty. A two-month long amnesty, which ended on October 31, netted more than 368 weapons including shotguns, rifles, pistols and knives.
The haul included 12 crossbows, six swords, 11 starting pistols, a stun gun and a musket.
Garda investigations are continuing.
Operation Anvil was launched in May 2005 to crack down on gun crime in Dublin.
