It has been reported this afternoon that the disgraced circuit court judge Brian Curtin has tabled his resignation.

Sources said he has handed in a letter to that effect to the Government today.

Judge Curtin was tried for having images of child pornography on his computer but was acquitted when it emerged that a search warrant used to search his residence had expired.

Two years ago, Minister for Justice Michael McDowell moved an impeachment motion in the Dáil saying Curtin was 'unsuitable to exercise the office of a judge'.

A joint Dáil-Seanad committee was set up following a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year.

It met today and is due to publish its findings this month.
