Pressure has been put on the Government and the Opposition to help make homelessness history.

The MakeRoom campaign, which was launched by the Simon Community, Threshold, Focus Ireland and the St Vincent de Paul aims to make homelessness a thing of the past by 2010.

It wants more and better housing, more effective support for people leaving homelessness behind and greater efforts to be made to tackle poverty.

The campaign hopes to make the matter a policy issue for all political parties in next year's General Election.

Spokesperson Bob Jordan said that although the plan sounded ambitious; it was workable and said with combined effort its targets could be achieved.
