Ahern speech expected to confirm tax policy

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is due to deliver his keynote speech to Fianna Fail's Ard Fheis.

He is expected to tell delegates that FF policies are responsible for Ireland's continuing economic success.

It is understood that Mr Ahern will confirm the Government intends to keep taxes low and focus resources on society's most in need.

There is speculation that he will announce that the old-age pension will be raised to more than €200 a week and that further incentives are on the way to encourage people to start a pension plan.
