A 30-year-old Algerian man has been detained by police in the Canary Islands in connection with the murder of Daniel Paul O'Callaghan.

A 30-year-old Algerian man has been detained by police in the Canary Islands in connection with the murder of Daniel Paul O'Callaghan.

The 25-year-old Irish man was found unconscious in the resort of Playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria over three years ago.

He had been badly beaten and later died from his injuries.

The Algerian was arrested yesterday and is expected to be brought before a judge for questioning.
