The Building and Allied Trades Union is urging construction workers to be vigilant in the coming weeks in order to avoid any building-site tragedies in the run-up to Christmas.

The final two months of the year are traditionally the worst period for accidents on construction sites.

Despite improvements in safety in recent years, 23 workers were killed in building accidents last year, compared to 16 in 2004.
