Two thirds of mothers unhappy with maternity services

Almost two thirds of women who have given birth in recent years believe maternity and support services need to be improved, according to a survey published this morning.

Sixty-three per cent of the women involved in the Irish Examiner research said they were unhappy with aspects of their care.

The study found that women feel they are not getting enough information before and after giving birth and want a higher number of midwives employed in maternity hospitals.

It also reveals that four in every 10 mothers have had some intervention to either start or progress their labour, while private patients have a much higher rate of planned Caesarean sections than public patients.
