Plan to clear driving test waiting list to start tomorrow
The plan to reduce the driving test backlog kicks into action tomorrow.
Private test company SGS will begin testing some of the 140,000 people who are waiting to take the test.
The company will conduct 40,000 tests over the next 18 months, operating from 11 centres around the country.
Minister for Transport Martin Cullen is predicting that by 2007, the wait for tests will be reduced to between 10 and 12 weeks.
