Cork man in custody after ramming two garda cars
A 26-year-old Cork man who tried to ram two garda squad cars near Ennis in Co Clare this morning has been remanded in custody.
The man, who has an address in Ennis but is originally from west Cork, appeared before a special sitting of Ennis District Court.
He faced five charges, including drunk driving and dangerous driving.
Ennis District Court was told the man was driving dangerously at three locations in the Ennis area when he was chased by gardaĂ at 3.40am today.
Inspector Tom Kennedy alleged the accused was also acting recklessly as he turned his car around while being pursued by gardaĂ and attempted to drive straight at them. Later, he jumped from his car while it was still moving.
The man is also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with refusing to provide a specimen when brought to Ennis garda station.
Judge Joseph Mangan remanded the accused in custody until next Friday due to his failure to appear in court on a previous occasion as well as the gravity of his alleged driving offences last night.
