Children face screening after TB scare at Mayo Hospital

Dozens of young children are being called in for tests as a result of a tuberculosis scare at Mayo General Hospital.

The Health Service Executive is in the process of contacting the children's parents following a case of the disease at the hospital in recent days.

Dozens of children have already been screened for any potential exposure to TB, but none have been found to have the infection.

The HSE is refusing to say whether the case relates to a staff member, visitor or patient, but says the risk is quite low and the screening programme is taking place as a precaution.
