Irish Heart Foundation announces new president

Professor Eoin O’Brien has today been appointed president of the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF).

Professor Eoin O’Brien has today been appointed president of the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF).

Prof. O’Brien becomes the tenth president of the Foundation since it was established in 1966. He succeeds Dr Will Fennell, who has been president since 2003.

“We are honoured to have such a distinguished and experienced Cardiologist as Professor O’Brien as president,” said IHF chief executive Michael O’Shea. “He is one of the world experts on hypertension and brings a lot of other wider experience including advisory work with numerous other health promoting organisations and publishing.

“I greatly look forward to the valuable contribution that he will make to the foundation.”

Professor O’Brien is Professor of Molecular Pharmacology at the Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research, University College Dublin. He has published more than 600 scientific papers on hypertension research.

He is a past editor of the Irish Medical Journal and the Journal of the Irish Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons.
