Some 150 Irish soldiers are to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, Defence Minister Willie O’Dea confirmed today.

Some 150 Irish soldiers are to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, Defence Minister Willie O’Dea confirmed today.

After the Cabinet yesterday gave its approval, the minister revealed the troops would be serving alongside the Finnish army in the war ravaged nation from the end of October.

<p> Volunteers attending the DMax 7.7 fitness event, in honour of Darragh McCarthy, who tragically passed away last year at just 21 years of age. The sold-out fitness event saw over 300 competitors take on DMax 7.7 featuring seven fitness stations, lasting seven minutes per station with a two minute transition between station. Competitors entered in teams of two and tested their strength, endurance and mental resilience across a series of challenges including rope skipping, ski-erg, medicine ball, assault bike, rowing, burpee box jumps and wall balls.
