Two killed in three car smash

Two men died tonight in a three-car smash near Ballinasloe, Co Galway.

Gardaí said the collision occurred around 6pm on the Ballinasloe-Ahascragh road, which has now been closed by accident investigators.

Three other occupants of the vehicles were injured and taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

Gardaí said driving conditions were poor at the time of the accidentwhich happened at Killure.

A total of 21 people have died on the nation’s roads during September, one of the lowest levels for any month since 2000.
