Addiction centre reports increase in demand for services

A leading help centre for heroin addicts in Dublin has reported an increase in new injecting drug users attending its health promotion unit.

In its latest annual report, the Merchants Quay centre says the number of addicts using its services increased by 6% in 2005.

It also says significant numbers of immigrants are seeking help from its homeless services.
