Ahern may make statement today on payments controversy

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern could make a statement later today about money he allegedly received from wealthy businessmen 13 years ago.

Mr Ahern has been under pressure for a number of days to explain the circumstances behind the payments, which are being investigated by the Mahon Tribunal.
