Dance spectacular to open Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup will open in style today at the K Club in Co Kildare.
An estimated 40,000 people will attend golf matches on each of the three days of the prestigious event to watch the US and Europe teams compete.
The Irish tournament will be the largest in the event’s history, with a potential television audience of two billion people.
Matches are being screened in 140 countries.
Ireland’s premier contemporary dance company CoisCeim Dance Theatre will bring to life the Book of Kells at the official opening with what promises to be a spellbinding dance spectacle.
Inspired by the human and animal ornamentation found in the legendary masterpiece, Intimate Details features 60 dancers as calves, monks, warriors, horses and birds in an interpretation of the mythical world of ancient Ireland.
A bird aerialist (symbolising freedom and imagination) will fly above the scene and will dazzle spectators with her mid-air acrobatics.
