Taxi drivers to make decision on Ryder Cup strike threat
Taxi drivers are expected to reveal today if they will be making any attempt to disrupt the Ryder Cup as part of their campaign against a new fare structure.
Hundreds of drivers, most of them based in Dublin, have already held a series of stoppages as part of the campaign.
They have threatened to target the Ryder Cup, but the threat has been widely condemned and it is unclear if the taxi unions will go ahead with the move.
Meanwhile, union representatives are also due to meet the Dublin Airport Authority this morning to discuss new fees they will have to pay to the body once the fare reforms come into force on September 25.
Under the changes, drivers who work from Dublin Airport will have to pay a €500 levy to the DAA.
The taxi unions want the fee to be suspended until the whole dispute about the new fare structure is sorted out.
