Irish soldiers could be in south Lebanon as part of a beefed up force of UN peacekeepers before the end of this year.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern confirmed today that talks are underway about the possibility of Ireland and Finland sending a joint battalion of troops to the war-torn region.
