The Labour Party is demanding a 24-hour garda presence in the Moyross area of Limerick following the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man last night.

The victim was shot dead in a gangland-style execution while sitting in a car in the Pineview Gardens area.

Gardaí are linking his death to the ongoing feud between rival criminal gangs in the city.

Labour TD Jan O'Sullivan said today that the local community was fearful of retaliation and an increased garda presence was needed to prevent further violence.

"We've already had the terrible incident in Moyross with the burning of the two children and there's certainly a very strong feeling in Limerick that we need a constant, strong garda presence in the various housing estates," she said.
