An ex-soldier held for questioning about the murder of a baby girl at an Army camp in the North 40 years ago has been released.

Police in Belfast confirmed today that the 60-year-old man, who was arrested in Staffordshire, had been freed.

A spokesman said a file on the case would be sent to the Public Prosecution Service.

The former soldier was detained on Wednesday and interviewed about the murder of nine-month-old Lynda Cochrane, at Ballykinlar Army Camp, near Newcastle, Co Down, in 1966.
