Police in the North have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 56-year-old who was seriously injured during a row in Belfast over the weekend.

The man, who has not been named, died in hospital last night after he was seriously assaulted during the disturbance on Bedford Street on Saturday evening.

A man who was arrested following the incident is still in police custody today.

The PSNI says the assault happened opposite the Ulster Hall at around 6pm, while the area was very busy.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, particularly a female Australian tourist who ran to a nearby restaurant to get help.
