Pensioner dies after Westmeath crash

Gardaí were today investigating a crash in Co Westmeath which claimed the life of an 85-year-old driver.

The woman was injured in a two-car collision at The Downs, Mullingar, at 10.30pm on Sunday night.

The crash happened at the junction of the Killucan turn-off on the N4.

The pensioner, who was the driver of one of the cars, died in Mullingar General Hospital at around 2.30am.

Two other people were taken to the hospital for treatment following the crash.
