FG calls on minister to intervene in Laytown school crisis
Fine Gael is calling on the Minister for Education Mary Hanafin to intervene in the Laytown school crisis.
The party is due to meet with the parents of up to a hundred children in County Meath who have been left without a school as the new term begins.
The school has no capacity for the junior infants pupils, because of problems with planning permission to extend the building.
Local Fine Gael TD Shane McEntee said: “It is the behaviour of the Department of Education and the behaviour of the Church which is totally responsible for not providing schools.
"They’ve known for 12 months that they had 100 children and yet it was the month of April this year before they went to look for planning permission."
