HSE: Ireland’s healthcare can top European league

The head of the Health Service Executive Professor Brendan Drumm has said Ireland's standard of healthcare can be amongst Europe's best within five years.

Professor Drumm told a gathering of European hospital managers in Dublin that chronic disease is one of the biggest challenges facing the hospital system.

The former paediatric consultant also praised the role of consultants, saying some are underpaid for the work they do.
