Collins and Griffith memorial in Dublin today
The annual commemoration of Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith takes place in Dublin today.
The two revolutionary leaders helped steer Ireland towards independence from Britain in the early 1920s.
Griffith became head of the fledgling Free State Government. Collins was Minister for Finance.
Within weeks, both were dead.
Chairman of the organising committee Seamus Scally said they were true founding fathers of modern Ireland, but very different people, Collins being essentially a military man and a politician, while Arthur Griffith tended to be more of a pacifist.
