Govt urged to ensure elderly access to transport
The Government is being urged to ensure as many elderly people as possible have access to a bus or train.
Age Action Ireland has said that pensioners who are looking forward to the end of free travel restrictions are the lucky ones, as many older people are still without any public transport at all in some rural parts of the country.
Gerard Scully of Age Action Ireland says a simple trip to the post office, bank or shop remains an ordeal for some, where there are not bus routes in close proximity, or the frequency of the service is not adequate.
