Two held as drugs crackdown continues

Two men were arrested today in a follow-up raid to a major drugs operation in Co Meath.

Gardaí arrested the men, who are both in their 20s, after a further two searches were carried out in the Ballivor area of the county.

The searches follow three swoops in Co Meath over the August Bank Holiday weekend which netted caches worth more than €1.4m of cannabis, cocaine and heroin, as well as firearms and ammunition.

Gardaí said they believed they had busted one of the biggest drugs operations in the north-east.

Officers said the two men arrested today were detained for questioning in relation to the ongoing sale and supply of drugs and firearms in the area.

The men are being held in Trim garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí yesterday detained another two men, also in their 20s, after seizing drugs believed to be cocaine and cannabis, which may have a street value of up to €2,000.

The searches yesterday took place in the Navan and Athboy areas.

The men were later released without charge and a file was prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
