North: High risk sex offender back behind bars
A high risk convicted sex offender was back behind bars today after being hunted down by police.
Robert Simpson Wallace, 77, was remanded in custody for four weeks at Belfast Magistrates Court.
Police launched a hunt for the ex-prisoner after he disappeared from approved accommodation in Belfast.
Wallace was detained in Co Armagh last night after police launched a public appeal to help them trace him.
The search for him began after the former prisoner left the hostel in Belfast’s Victoria Street and failed to tell the authorities where he has moved to.
He was detained in Lurgan by police who had warned he posed a serious risk to vulnerable women and girls.
He appeared in court charged with failing to register details of his new address with police and the Probation Service and failing to regularly sign the sex offenders’ register.
He is due to appear before the same court by videolink on September 7.
