Holidaymaker may have been caravan blaze victim
A male holidaymaker may have been the victim of a caravan blaze earlier today, gardaí said.
The charred remains were discovered by emergency services after they put out a fire at a camping site in Kinvara around 6am.
As investigating officers from Gort Garda Station were assisted forensic detectives at the scene, Garda Superintendent Constable Con Cadogan, said the body may be that of a man.
“From local inquiries we believe the body to be that of a male. We haven’t established an identity,” he said.
There was no damage caused to the 20 other caravans and some tents on the holiday site on the Ballyvaughan Road, which overlooks scenic Galway Bay, he pointed out.
Mr Cadogan said officers were keeping an open mind on the cause of the fire until a forensic examination was completed.
He appealed for witnesses or information from the public in relation to the incident.
