Self-harm a growing problem among teenage girls in Ireland

Deliberate self harm is a growing problem amongst 15- to 19-year-old girls, according to the National Parasuicide Registry.

Deliberate self harm is a growing problem amongst 15- to 19-year-old girls, according to the National Parasuicide Registry.

A report by the National Suicide Prevention Office shows that 11,000 deliberate self-harm cases, also called parasuicide, were treated at Irish emergency units during 2004.

It found that 57% of these cases were women.
