Two Irish tourists have died in a freak road accident in the Chinese capital, Beijing, today.
The accident happened at 9.30am local time when drainage pipes fell off the back of a truck and onto the rear of a minibus while the two vehicles were swerving to avoid each other at a crossroads.
The minibus was carrying six foreign tourists and their guide on a trip to the Great Wall.
An Irish man and woman were both killed along with a Dutch man who was also among the party.
A Department of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman said: “Our consular staff are investigating the reports. We have no other comment to make at the moment.”
