Legal costs for applications to the Residential Institutions Redress Board are likely to top €200m.

Legal costs for applications to the Residential Institutions Redress Board are likely to top €200m.

The board's function is to make financial awards to people who were abused while resident in state institutions.

In all, almost 15,000 applications were made to the board by its December closing date last year.

Legal costs have been paid for almost 3,000 of those, and so far these have cost over €37m.
