Gardaí have been given more time to question a young man being held in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Sheola Keaney last week.

The 21-year-old man was arrested in Cobh just before 7am.

He is being questioned about the murder of Ms Keaney, whose body was found in undergrowth near the Pirates rugby club in the town on Sunday evening following a two-day search.

She had been reported missing when she failed to turn up for work the previous Friday.

At her funeral Mass yesterday, the Bishop of Cloyne called for her killer to come forward and face the consequences of the "heinous crime".

More than 1,000 mourners attended the funeral of the popular young woman, with friends describing her as "one of a kind".
