A 15-year-old boy drowned in an accident off the north coast of Northern Ireland today.

A 15-year-old boy drowned in an accident off the north coast of Northern Ireland today.

The teenager died in hospital after being rescued by the Portrush lifeboat.

Another man is being treated in hospital after he tried to rescue the victim.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “We were involved in an incident where a person got into difficulties at the Whiterocks Beach Portrush and in an attempt to assist him another man got into difficulties.

“They were rescued by Portrush lifeboat and were taken to hospital.”
