Irish evacuated from Lebanon
Up to 100 Irish citizens are being evacuated from the trouble-hit Lebanon region today on a flight chartered by the Irish Government.
As conflict in the region escalated, the Government advised all Irish residents and tourists to leave.
Around 15 citizens were flown from Lebanon to Syria yesterday, with six continuing on to Cyprus along with other European citizens.
Buses were arranged to take up to 100 Irish people from Lebanon to Syria for the chartered flight today. The flight is expected to take them directly from Latakia in Syria to Dublin.
The Foreign Affairs Department has urged anyone with concerns over a family member living or working in the area to contact them.
