Three family members among five killed on roads

Three members of one family were among those killed on the country's roads at the weekend.

In all, five people were killed in accidents, including two children.

At 7.30pm yesterday evening a man in his 30s, a woman in her 20s and a three-year-old girl, all members of the same family, died when their car collided with another vehicle near Athenry in Co Galway.

A woman and two children who were travelling in the other car were brought to hospital with minor injuries.

A 22-year-old man died after he was hit by a car in at Carrickboy in Co Longford at 2am on Sunday morning.

Fifteen hours later in the same county, a nine-year-old girl lost her life when the car she was travelling in overturned on the Longford to Kilashee Road.
