Golfing great and fisherman Mark O’Meara will launch details of the first-ever international casting championships in Ireland next week.

The American, who won the British Open and US Masters in 1998, has also designed a golf course at Carton House in Maynooth.

The first-ever Emerald World Masters World Casting Championships in Ireland take place at Carton House in early September.

World casting champions, Steve Rajeff and Scott McKenzie will also attend Monday’s launch.

Carton House also hosted the Nissan Irish Open in May.

The Championship will consist of five main events comprising Trout Fly Distance; Salmon Fly Distance; Spey Distance; Trout Fly Accuracy and Surf Casting.

Representatives of the 2006 International Casting Sport Federation (ICSF) and the Emerald World Masters will also attend the launch event.
