Demonstration at Dáil planned for tomorrow

The Peace & Neutrality Alliance (PANA) are to hold a demonstration at the Dáil on Kildare Street tomorrow against the proposed Defence (Amendment) Bill 2006.

"PANA has for ten years campaigned against the integration of this state into the EU/US military structures," said Roger Cole, chair of PANA.

"This Bill is designed to facilitate the integration of the Irish army into these structures via the EU Battle Groups to ensure Ireland's full participation in the resource wars of the 21st century.

"Last weekend's visit of a massive British warship is just another example of the Government's total commitment to this policy.

"Ahern's support for war is not reflective of the opinion of most ordinary people. Now is the time to remove this war party from power. The sooner a general election is called the better."
