Cocaine and handguns seized in raid

Up to €2m worth of cocaine, handguns and ammunition were seized following a number a raids in north Dublin and County Meath today.

Three men and three women arrested at the scenes are currently being questioned at a number of stations in north Dublin.

One man is in his 50s and all others are in their 30s. All six were arrested under S30 Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours.

The searches were carried out as part of on on-going garda operation. Gardai believe they have recovered approximately 30 kilos of cocaine.

A garda spokesman said: “This seizure, depending on the result of forensic analysis, may have a potential street value of €2m.”

The seizures will undoubtedly save lives in local communities, according to Dublin Central Fianna Fail candidate, Senator Cyprian Brady.

“These represent a major blow against the gangs that are trying to flood the northside with drugs in an effort to line their own pockets at the expense of entire communities,” he said.

“It is important that people understand that the drugs trade is intrinsically linked with the violent killings we have seen in many parts of the northside and those who engage in this trade have no respect for life, whether it is the lives of victims of drugs or partners in crime who cross their paths.”
